Learn How This Custom Tape and Label Manufacturer Is “Making the Impossible Possible” for Specialty Applications

This article is sponsored by NADCO Tapes & Labels, Inc., a U.S. manufacturer of custom labels and tapes for specialty applications. Supporting services include material converting, die cutting, and digital printing for variable images and variable data.

“If you can imagine it, we will make it stick.” Not many tape or label manufacturers can promise this to their customers, but for one custom manufacturer, it’s their slogan.

NADCO Tapes & Labels, Inc., based in Sarasota, Florida, is a women-owned manufacturer of custom tape and label products for standard and specialty applications. The difference between NADCO and other tape and label providers is their full suite of turnkey services.

“We offer stocking programs, so basically we become a partner to clients, not just a supplier,” says Neil Doniger, vice president of NADCO Tapes & Labels. “Amid recent supply chain challenges, short runs and quick turnarounds are becoming a priority for our customers, and we have been able to comply for years now. Sustainability trends are also growing, and we are right on the leading edge of what is and is not possible.”

Founded in 1988, NADCO is an ISO 9001:2015 certified, UL-authorized label supplier and the first LEED Silver Certified manufacturer in Florida. They can convert and customize items such as film, cloth, vinyl, metal foil, paper, and duct tape, as well as double-coated and high-performance products. Thomas Insights sat down with Doniger to learn more about NADCO’s custom turnkey capabilities.

Neil Doniger (ND): Nadco is a single-source solution in the tape and label markets. We provide a one-stop shop for customers to order both tapes and labels, a nearly unheard-of advantage in the adhesive industry. By eliminating the need to order adhesive products from multiple vendors, Nadco streamlines its client’s production process. Additionally, as a full-service converter, we can customize everything about your project, including custom adhesive options, laminates and coatings, custom size/shape die-cutting, print and design, width and length specs, case pack/distribution requirements, and more.

ND: Our slogan, “If you can imagine it, we will make it stick,” speaks to our reputation of being a problem-solving operation. The most common and pressing question we get is whether we can develop a unique solution that has never been done before, and 99% of the time we can say yes.

We frequently call our partners in the industry and ask for education or assistance with a new application for a specific press or machine, and oftentimes they say they’ve never dealt with this application before. But just because it’s never been done before doesn’t mean it’s not possible. We like the challenge of making the impossible possible.

Even some of our competitors will refer clients to us because they know that even if they cannot do it, NADCO probably can. We also hear this from our equipment manufacturers all the time.

ND: One of our customers is a nationally known brand that needed a clear label that resisted scratches and adhered well yet was able to be removed and re-positioned repeatedly without damaging the print or losing durability. They couldn’t find a total solution with any of their label manufacturers, but NADCO was able to customize a product just for them to hit all their requirements. This product recipe has become a staple for said brand since 2010.

ND: We can solve problems for folks looking to replace things like nuts, bolts, or screws with pressure-sensitive products. For instance, a company might be trying to get the overall weight down for an item they are developing, and one way would be to replace nuts and bolts made of metal with a lightweight yet durable double-sided transfer tape.

Or, a company may be using nuts and bolts to seal two parts together, but this seal may fail over time with movement or exposure to the elements, creating a leaky seal. We might suggest a chemical- or weather-resistant double-sided foam product that would allow contraction and expansion movement without damaging the seal. The foam products would be customized to meet client specs according to their end-use application and would last longer than their current nuts-and-bolts construction.

ND: Customers should be clear about their needs: Do they need a tape or label? Permanent or removable adhesive? Is it for indoor or outdoor use? Will it be exposed to extreme cold, extreme heat, moisture, or chemicals? Does it need to adhere to unusual substances, such as wood or concrete?

Also, do they have any regulatory considerations, such as UL (Underwriters Laboratories) logo printing or FDA (Food and Drug Administration) compliance? What are their layout requirements, like size, finished unwind direction, quantity per roll, roll size, and case pack requirements? We can meet all your requirements, as we are not just a supplier of one type of product.

It is also helpful to know what the customer's previous experience has been with their tape and label products before finding NADCO. What didn’t they like about their experience with their previous vendor? This will help us ensure a more individualized, customized experience as we concentrate our efforts on providing a better product and/or service.
